THIS IS An extremely RARE EARLY STERLING SILVER AND CRANBERRY GLASS Oval OPEN SALT CELLAR DISH by Waltrous Mfg Co dating to approx 1898.
THIS BEAUTIFUL OVAL SALT HAS A FITTED & ADHERED CRANBERRY GLASS LINER
THE SIDES ARE DECORATED IN AN ELEGANT Gorgeous OPENWORK PATTERN FEATURING what looks a bit like a repeating fleur de lis shape alternating with a smaller almost diamond shape pattern - but look closely you can determine what the shapes are.
Signed on the bottom w an incised signature hallmark CW Sterling - which is the Watrous Mfg co. - here is info about the co:
Watrous MFG Co - Wallingford Ct. - origin as Matby, Stevens & Co. & incorporated in 1895 as Watrous Mfg Co. became one of the orig companies part of the international Silver co in 1898
CONDITION is nice w NO CHIPS or CRACKS TO THE LINER & EXCELLENT SILVER QUALITY but there is some darkening to the silver.
