Description
1932 Ford Roadster
Looking for a super sharp street rod that you can parade down Main Street and park at local cruise nights? How about a cool piece of Americana that'll turn heads anywhere it goes? If you're in the market for a great cruiser that's stylish, powerful and has lots of history, who says you have to buy a stuffy, high maintenance trailer queen?
A ground up build, custom all the way, this pop top roadster, screams of the days when street racing decided who was king, and the drive-in was THE place to be. V6 powered, dripping with chrome, nostalgia, and draped in root beer barrel brown. Check out the details and grease up your hair for this beauty.
Exterior
Mostly fiberglass reproduction panels all nice and straight and rust free, and a metal cowled hood and it's all bathed in root beer barrel brown paint which presents as an older build. Some scratches on the fenders and the rumble seat are noted and the hood has some mini fisheyes most likely due to previous rust that was not completely smoothed over when used in this build. A blue oval tops a vertical brass rod ribbed front grille, which is flanked on either side by a large chromed headlight with a crossbar and fender post mounting. Curved fenders frame the wire wheels with center moon caps, and come together via a rubber topped running board. Some additional running lights are on the firewall cowl right behind the hood, and just a bit further back is a chromed windscreen trimming. A nice canvas tan convertible top with chromed scissor folding mechanism and wood strips to support the roof in back and a framed glass window can be seen. In back a turn of the chromed T handle and what to my wandering eyes does appear, but none other than a mother-in-law seat. This is covered with tuck and roll dark tan vinyl and has a peppering of buttons inserted for extra texture. Like new weather stripping abounds on all the seals and wonderful simple curved bumpers are attached to the front and rear. Lest I forget, some nice gold pin striping and flourishes are on nearly every edge of various surfaces and a chromed gas tank in back all add some highlighting to this multiple trophy winning car.
Interior
A swing of the simple doors and we see not unlike the rumble seat, more dark tan vinyl door panels with a small pouch inserted for storage, and a late model inset door actuator. Inside a shiny vinyl deep tuck and roll and buttoned bench stretches from door to door, and sports seat belts. An adjustable column and wheel from a late model Oldsmobile fronts a faux wood grain painted dash front with a root beer barrel brown small dash top. In the very center is the gauge cluster which is within a trim oval panel which has a swirl pattern machined aluminum background. Inset into this panel are black faced gauges with white letters and numbers and are produced by Omega Kustom Instrument Co. There are a few extra lights and knobs present in this panel as well. The floor is covered in gold carpeting, and on the driver's side it is coming away from the threshold.
Drivetrain
Under the cowled hood is a shiny 2.8-liter Ford V6 with a 2-barrel carburetor, and a C4 3-speed automatic transmission on back. A Ford 8-inch rear axle takes the power from this mill and throws it out to the rear wheels.
Undercarriage
A mixture of brown painted steel floor pans and framing, along with black fiberglass rockers and running board structure we can see independent coil springs for the front suspension, and a 4 bar with coil over setup for the rear. Power disc brakes are upfront, and power drums in back.. Dual exhaust with a Turbo muffler duo is underneath as well.
Drive-Ability
She fired up and it was off to the test track where it did nicely. Certainly not breakneck acceleration from the V6, but it does have some snappy performance, bias free panic stopping, and the C4 transmission shifts smoothly.
An older build showing some age but in its past it has won over 100 trophies and has had a few stints in the local auto museum, so there is a bit of "provenance" to this car. A few signs of age but could be brought back with a snazzy simple respray if you desire. A roadster with rumble seat setup, and some pinstriping, chrome gas tank, and wire wheels to add a scoop of vanilla to the root beer brown exterior.
