Description
1947 Ford Convertible
Cruising is a social activity that primarily consists of driving a car. Cruising can be an expression of the freedom of possessing a driver's license. Cruising is distinguished from regular driving by the social and recreational nature of the activity, which is characterized by an impulsively random, often aimless course. A popular route, (or "strip"), is often the focus of cruising. "Cruise nights" are evenings during which cars drive slowly. A cruise can be a meeting of car enthusiasts at a predetermined location, organized predominantly through the internet, (in recent times), but also largely through mobile phone, word of mouth, or simply by a cruise being established enough that it becomes a regular event.
For consignment, a Ford Convertible from 1947. This one is in nice condition with snappy red paint, good chrome and a canvas top in contrasting tan. Some newer upgrades like all new brakes and a flathead V8 circa 1952. A 12-volt electric system upgrade and a wonderfully designed dash and interior with plenty of shine and bling. A classic ripe for the picking.
Exterior
Bathed in pristine deep red, you could just dive in and go for a scuba adventure in this paint. All the trimmings are nicely restored to their original chrome glory and all glass and even the tan canvas top is near perfect. A split front windshield, dual searchlights, well minded gaps, and rounded fenders abound. On the slab sides are some trim spears on the mid section of the fenders and the rocker. A rear glass window is within the convertible, and it's up and down was a breeze, (particularly when it is put down!). A nicely curved rounded trunk line melts into the rear quarters and supports small oval tail lighting on each side. 15-inch polished Astroblade wheels are on all 4 corners.
Interior
Plenty of stretched red velour backs shiny chromed cranks and handles and gives us a preview of what is to grace your eyes before you slip inside. Doing so reveals a very shiny red and chromed dash, complete with dual round large gauges flanking a central ribbed chromed speaker cover, and radio below. Nice rectangular gauges are in front of the steering wheel, which has retained its originality, and has a beautiful chromed horn ring in the center. Under the dash, a custom fabricated red velour covered vertical panel reaches for the dash and houses 4 aftermarket gauges. Also noted is an aftermarket tachometer now firmly mounted on top of the dash. Seats are finely recovered in overstuffed red velour and present in split rounded back bench form in front. In back a wide bench stretches form side covered red velour panel to panel. Red carpet covers the floors, and with all the vertical stitching between the folds, and vertical chrome trimmings on the dash, this interior presents like a finely tailored red Zoot Suit.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, within a fully restored engine bay painted nice and red, is a 1952 239ci Flathead V8. It's topped with a single 2-barrel carburetor and has a 3-speed manual transmission on back. This engine is looking great with some shiny chrome add-ons, red paint, and like new hoses and blue wiring.
Undercarriage
All underneath shows us an X frame setup, nicely painted black, and slightly patina. Transverse leaf spring suspension for the rear, and a transverse leaf spring front suspension along with newly added coil over shocks is working just flawlessly. Upfront new disc brakes and lines have replaced the drums and on back the drums have been retained both being of the power variety. Glass pack style exhaust is in dual presentation, snaking its way rearward to chromed tips.
Drive-Ability
As with all the cars we have had the pleasure to adorn our halls, and I have had the pleasure to drive them all. This one fired right up and was off with a whoosh. It handles just fab, accelerates as one would expect, and handles fine. The top down, radio on and cruising in the sun I was just like a 1940's gangster rolling down the highway with ease and style. Note the odometer is nonfunctional.
A very nicely preserved and tastefully added to restoration and classic Ford, and it's a convertible!
