Up for auction is a
Fiori G. Bernasco & Fagli Italian 800 Silver Horse Figural & Cobalt Glass Liner Open Salt Cellar.
This charming figural open salt was made by Fiori G. Bernasco & Fagli.
The bowl of this Italian 800 silver holder is round in shape, has a braided design rim and a tiny, highly detailed horse attached to the side.
A hand blown cobalt blue glass liner with a cut and polished rim sits in the silver holder.
The bottom of the holder is marked
“800”
and has a hallmark that I could not identify.
However, the reason I believe this to be made by Fiori G. Bernasco & Fagli is that I had another of this salt, that I previously sold, that had their paper label on it.
These adorable 800 silver figural salts were made in many different sizes and styles, and some can be seen in The Open Salt Compendium (Plates 315 & 319) by Sandra Jzyk & Nina Robertson.
It holder measures just 1” high to the top of the horse's head by 2-3/8" in length.
The cobalt salt liner measures 3/4" high by 1-1/2” in diameter.
It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or fleabites to the glass liner and only one tiny indentation to the silver holder on the underside of the base.
