John F. Seitz (born John Francis Seitz), aka John Seitz, was an American cinematographer
and inventor. Nominated for 7 Academy Awards for Best Cinematography including
Double Indemnity
(1944),
The Lost Weekend
(1945) and
Sunset Blvd.
(1950), all for
director Billy Wilder. Other films include
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
(1939)
and
The Great Gatsby
(1949). Seitz retired in 1960 and devoted himself to photographic
inventions for which he held 18 patents.
