ITEM DESCRIPTIONUp for auction is a
Signed Quezal Iridescent Art Glass Open Salt Cellar Dip.
This gorgeous art glass open salt was made by Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1901.
It is a short round squatty shape with ribs in a panel design.
The glass has brilliant iridescent color in rich shades of pink, blue, purple and gold.
The bottom of the salt is
signed "QUEZAL NY"
.
Quezal salts can be seen in The Open Salt Compendium (Plates 50-52) by Sandra Jzyk & Nina Robertson and in 5,000 Open Salts (#16) by Heacock & Johnson where they are noted to be scarce.
It measures 1” high by 2-5/8" at its widest middle point and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or fleabites.
There is one tiny circle in the finish that is not a chip but is mentioned for accuracy (please see last picture).
